PREPARATION & INGREDIENTS

Which ingredients do you use?

Open tab

As a general rule, we only buy fresh, seasonal or dried base ingredients - mostly organic - with some exceptions like pasta and cheese.

The unique ingredients are listed on the outside of the pack and on the item's description page.

We don't use any additives, preservatives, emulgators, flavoring or anything else you might not want to put in your body.

Do you use any additives?

Open tab

NO, we do not use:

- Artificial additives and flavors, not even nature-identical
- Artificial preserving agents
- Flavor enhancers
- Fillers, fibers
- Palm oil, refined or processed fats of any kind
- Ready-mixes or any other industrial powder

Fats: we exclusively use high-quality extra virgin olive oil from Italy, certified organic vegetable oil and fresh certified organic butter.

Meat: all our meat is either organic or Neuland certified (except for the wild boar - but that one was running around in the woods instead...)

Fish: all our fishes, crustaceans and molluscs are either organic or MSC certified. We do not process any tuna.

Spices: every time you read “spices” on the ingredient list, it exclusively means whole or crushed or powdered parts of a plant, never industrial extracts or artificial powders.

Since always and forever. We promise!

Why are you not completely certified organic?

Open tab

We are constantly searching for the best (e.g. the freshest and tastiest) available ingredients and therefore don’t want to limit ourselves to those that sport one particular label, especially since that label is misused way too often as a marketing tool instead of a proof of quality. If we were strictly organic, for example, we couldn’t source for you the most awesome Parmigiano cheese available! Nonetheless, most of our ingredients - vegetables, fruit, grains, legumes, meat, dairy and eggs in particular - are certified organic or even biodynamic.

Are your meals healthy?

Open tab

Wherever possible, we employ gentle cooking methods (such as steaming and sauteing) that preserve nutrients, vitamins and other beneficial components. Vacuum sealing and deep freezing help us with this task.

We are conscious about the amounts of fat, sugar and salt and tend to limit them to the minimum required for the dish to be perfectly seasoned. At the same time we don’t want to forego tastiness or follow any particular dietary restriction. We also want to offer meals that have balanced macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and fats) and include vegetables whenever possible. We still recommend to complement our dishes with an additional portion of seasonal vegetables (whether steamed, roasted or as a salad) - for example our seasonal steamed veggies.

In the end though, variety is the key. A lasagna has more fat than a veggie soup for sure, but if your diet is deliberately diverse, it will be automatically balanced and will allow for a few small...exceptions.

Do you account for diets intolerances and allergies?

Open tab

As we want to offer you the biggest possible variety, you’ll always find gluten free and lactose free products. Nonetheless, our dishes are not per se designed to adhere to some specific diet.

All ingredients are listed on the products webpage as well as on its label, potential allergens are highlighted. If you’re still unsure, write us and we’ll discuss every ingredient with you!

We do not process peanuts in our kitchen, but we cannot 100% guarantee that a contamination didn’t happen before other ingredients arrived at our facility.

Open tab

Yes, you can buy a digital gift card on our online shop.

Is it possible to return items?

Open tab

Generally it is not possible to return items, as we cannot be sure that the packaging was kept intact and the freezing was secured throughout. The same is true for already opened goods from the Gourmet store.

This of course does not hold true in case that your meal or a product was defect in any way: please write us an email describing the issue, if needed with a photo. We'll substitute any item that is not impeccable!

All products from the Gourmet Store and wine bottles can be returned in the 14 days after you received them, providing they are still unopened and in their original package. Please write us an email to arrange the return. If the value of the returned goods is above 50€, we'll pay for the delivery, otherwise it will be on you.

FOOD & STORAGE

What is the portion size?

Open tab

We designed our dishes to function as one single full meal, alone or with the addition of a small side dish. We are eager to hear back from you about the portion size.

If you need bigger portions long-term (for example for your whole family, for colleagues or for an event) please write us: we’ll find the perfect solution together.

What is your packaging made of? Is it sustainable?

Open tab

Our vacuum pouches are certified 100% plastic free and compostable (yes, the stickers too!), we try to reduce the usage of additional wraps, boxes, etc. to the absolute minimum.

If you add this to the fact that you just need to reheat the food and will ideally eat it completely, it means that you won’t produce a single gram of waste. Pretty cool, huh?

Our production kitchen runs on 100% renewable electricity supply. Our deliveries are carried out with the bike whenever possible.

We try to source as many ingredients as possible regionally and cooperate with several suppliers from Berlin and Brandenburg.

We have developed production processes that maximize the usage of ingredients and avoid producing waste and are constantly thinking about how to improve them. We have the explicit goal of working as efficiently and carefully with our resources as possible.

Our vacuum pouches are:
- Ocean friendly: they dissolve when exposed to marine environments
- Compostable: you can throw them in the “Biotonne”
- Biodegradable: made from 100% natural materials, plastic free
- BRCS Packaging Materials certified

How large is the packaging?

Open tab

The size of one vacuum pack is approximately 24 x 20 x 3 cm

Why frozen? And why vacuum sealed?

Open tab

Maybe you thought: frozen meals are cheap, unhealthy stuff, produced industrially for those who just don’t care. And that could be correct quite often...but we are the exception!

It was clear since our first thoughts about Frizza that we wanted to create the perfect mix of tasty, healthy and convenient. For this to become reality, a long shelf life is essential, and that you can reach with long, destructive cooking, chemical preserving agents...or just freezing cold. This wrongly misjudged preserving method allows us to buy ingredients at their seasonal peak, process them conserving their most important characteristics (taste, color and nutrients) and offer them to you without any fuss. Unbeatable!

Vacuum sealing is just an additional precaution: without oxygen, the food remains fresh and unaltered for a longer period, especially after defrosting. Furthermore, it gives you full flexibility: you don’t need to eat the defrosted meal immediately or very soon. And last but not least, the vacuumed portions are easy and efficient to stock.

What is the shelf life of your meals?

Open tab

Stored in a freezer, meals can keep for 6 months.

The still sealed package will last up to 3 days in the refrigerator.

Important: once thawing has started, don’t refreeze!

How do I prepare my meal?

Open tab

We recommend the following steps:

1. Remove your pack from the freezer

2. For best results, place the sealed package in the refrigerator to thaw about half a day before your meal

- If your plans change, the chilled and still sealed package will last up to 3 days in the refrigerator.

- If you’re in a hurry, just get the package from the freezer and hold it under warm water for a few minutes until partially thawed, then heat it for a little bit longer than usual.

3. Open and discard the package and put the meal in a pan to reheat (stove on low-medium heat, stir occasionally, add a little water if needed, about 5 minutes). Alternatively, put it on a plate and reheat in the microwave (800W for 5 minutes).
